Inflammation in the Catalytic Cracking unit of Bío Bío Refinery caused some plants to cease operation.
Hualpén, December 8, 2023.
We reiterate what happened today, when at 3:00 p.m., in the Bío Bío Refinery's Catalytic Cracking unit, an inflammation occurred, which caused some of the plants to cease operation. This activated our flares, which are the security system of the complex, which, when depressed, causes higher than usual flames and smoke to be displayed.
We clarify to our neighbors that this situation, despite its visibility, occurs due to the activation of the flares that protect the activity of the refinery and the environment; therefore, its timely operation shows that the security systems work optimally and that there is no risk to people or the environment.
As a result of this incident, an ENAP worker suffered minor burns and was referred to Mutual de Seguridad, where he is under observation and treatment.
The refinery is currently in the process of complete stoppage, in the hope of correcting the defect that affected it and being able to resume operations as soon as possible.
