Enap implements a management system for gender equality and family reconciliation

The company officially started on the road to certification in Chilean standard 3262, which will allow its diversity and inclusion structure to become a reality.

Together with the national director of the National Service for Women and Gender Equity (SernamEG), Priscilla Carrasco, Enap formalized the implementation of Chilean Standard 3262, for gender equality and reconciliation of work, family, and personal life.

The event was held at the company Headquarters where the company announced and signed the commitment to apply the regulatory management system. The event was attended by the chairwoman of the Board of Directors, Gloria Maldonado; the CEO of Enap, Julio Friedmann; the members of Enap’s Senior Management Committee constituted for this process; the Gender committees in all business units (in face-to-face and remote format) and union and federation representatives.

The corporate manager of People, Andrés León, opened the meeting, stressing that "years ago we sought to move forward without stopping at this goal and today we are proud to officially start on the road to certification in this standard that will allow our diversity and inclusion structure to become a reality. In addition, we have the support of the general management, the Board of Directors, and the government agencies that will support us to be crowned with this important certification," he added.

Subsequently, the national director of SernamEG, Priscilla Carrasco, explained the opportunities experienced by the organizations that implement the standard and celebrated "that such good things happen in state-owned companies," because "more than installing the issue of inclusion and gender equity as part of their principles, they are translating it into concrete actions, which is a tremendous challenge," she argued.

In this context, the authority commented on advances such as the Karin Law -which will come into force in August- which establishes protocols, evaluations, and sanctions for workplace harassment behaviors. She also invited us to "generate welcoming workspaces that allow us to be productive and allow our talents to shine.”

Meanwhile, Enap's general manager, Julio Friedmann, who heads the Senior Management Committee - which will meet three times a year - with the aim that its members should be agents of change, promote better practices, and address existing gaps, said that “we embrace this regulation to learn how to systematize policies that will allow us to continue to advance."

The executive stressed that, in recent times, the company has recruited women to be part of the production area, both in Aconcagua, Bío Bío, and Magallanes. "This is how we are growing together with female talent in the most historically masculine areas of the company: operation and maintenance. This is not fashion, because here there is a contribution that goes far beyond the work environment or a goal, but adds to the natural survival of our business. After all, it is proven that with gender equity there is a greater view of sustainability," he emphasized.

In this sense, the chairwoman of the Board of Directors of ENAP, Gloria Maldonado, added that "diversity also enables innovation and a culture of respect." During the last two years, "we have solidly positioned the issue and this became a reality and, today, a norm that will raise our standard," he said.

In her opinion, the only way for Enap to continue advancing in these matters is by "changing the essence of its working soul, which is people" and she said that, "by 2040, this must be a different, multi-energy company belonging to all Chileans, that addresses different fuels and works in each area to improve its internal culture."

On the Diversity and Inclusion and Gender Equity program, corporate manager, Karem Donoso presented her progress and highlighted that, currently, ENAP is developing a Mentoring Program to promote female leadership in the organization, among other actions and agreements.

After the launch, the committee for the standard had two workshops: one for awareness-raising and the other for coordination. To responsibly and comprehensively fulfill the commitment that ENAP voluntarily assumed, it will be implemented in three stages: Headquarters, in 2024; Aconcagua and Bío Bío refineries, in 2025; and Magallanes in 2026.
