Enap and TSM incorporate a fleet of natural gas trucks

The project will help reduce CO₂ emissions by 15% to 20% while cutting nearly 90% of the particulate matter generated by conventional diesel engines in the fleet.

Enap and Transportes Santa María (TSM) have announced the launch of a new fleet of Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) trucks, representing a key milestone in the transition toward sustainable transportation in Chile.

This initiative replaces diesel-powered trucks with units that now operate using a cleaner, more efficient solution. The adoption of LNG technology allows for a 15% to 20% reduction in CO₂ emissions, along with a nearly 90% decrease in particulate matter.

This fleet renewal underscores both companies’ commitment to energy transition and environmental protection. The new trucks will be used to transport LNG from Enap’s Aconcagua Refinery to the regasification plant in Pemuco, Ñuble Region.

This project reflects our goal of advancing toward cleaner and more efficient operations in a comprehensive manner,” stated Mauricio Naveas, Enap’s Corporate Supply Chain Manager.

Similarly, Juan Pablo Bowen, General Manager of TSM, highlighted that these new trucks “are a concrete example of how innovation can strengthen sustainability in our industry without compromising operational efficiency or safety.” He also emphasized that “this is a major step in reducing our carbon footprint and offering an environmentally responsible service. Our goal is to make our operations increasingly sustainable,” he said.

Meanwhile, Andrés Aranda, Enap’s Corporate Procurement and Service Management Manager, pointed out that “the incorporation of this new technology into our processes demonstrates how a Sourcing area that is integrated with business operations and the company’s strategic vision can drive significant progress through its commercial models and contractual relationships with suppliers as key partners.”

Additional Benefits

The fleet consists of 17 Scania trucks (model R 410 6x2 Euro 6), each with an approximate range of 1,100 kilometers. These vehicles not only reduce pollutant emissions but also lower noise pollution.

The project will be fully operational in the first quarter of 2025 and represents a valuable contribution by Enap and TSM toward both national and international decarbonization goals.
